What is a logic model?

A logic model is a structured, visual representation that outlines the key components of a program or project, specifically illustrating its inputs, activities, outputs, and outcomes. This framework helps stakeholders understand how the program works and demonstrates the logical relationships between resources invested (inputs), what the program does (activities), the direct products of those activities (outputs), and the longer-term impact or changes expected as a result of the program (outcomes).

This model can serve various purposes, such as planning, evaluation, and communication. By clearly mapping out these elements, a logic model allows program planners and evaluators to identify potential gaps, resources needed, and anticipated impacts, making it easier to assess effectiveness and make improvements.

In contrast, budgeting and financial planning focus strictly on the financial aspects of a project, while summarizing stakeholder feedback concentrates on understanding opinions and insights from those involved. Qualitative data analysis methods are used to interpret data drawn from interviews or observations rather than providing a comprehensive overview of program components like a logic model does.
